Why it matters

What Authenticity Really Means

We believe authenticity is the single thing that drives college decisions more than anything else. Our students have gotten into Stanford by writing about a love for language, Harvard with a personal statement about comedy, Penn through a love for arts and crafts, and Cornell through values learned from karate. None were built around the most impressive thing those students had done. All were completely, undeniably theirs.

These stories cannot start in 12th grade. They start in 9th, in the activities a student chooses, the summers they spend, the relationships they build, the competitions they enter. Our job is to help students find what is authentic to them and make sure it comes through in everything: their course selection, their extracurriculars, their summer programs, their awards and competitions, and finally, their writing.

Got Questions?

Helpful Insights.

Yes. Starting in 9th grade is not about getting a head start on applications. It is about having time to build something real. The students who write the most compelling essays in 12th grade are the ones who spent 9th and 10th grade doing things they actually cared about. By the time they sit down to write, the story is already there.

We work with students from 9th grade through 12th. The earlier we start, the more we can shape, not just the application, but the four years that make the application worth reading.

Your school counselor is managing dozens of students at once. At private schools, that ratio is still around 30 to 1. We work with a small number of families, which means we know your student, their story, their strengths, and the thread that runs through everything they have done. We are thinking strategically from 9th grade, not just helping fill out forms at the end.

It means the application feels like a specific person, not a resume. The activities connect to each other. The essays reveal something real. The whole thing adds up to someone an admissions officer feels they have actually met. The students who get in are not always the most impressive on paper. They are the ones whose applications make the reader feel something.

The essay is the payoff for four years of living and paying attention. A student who spent three years genuinely committed to something has something real to write about. That is why we start in 9th grade, not 12th. By the time the essays are written, the story is already lived — we just help tell it.

— WHAT WE DO TOGETHER —

Our College Guidance Services

Your student’s school has a college guidance counselor. At public schools, that counselor is managing hundreds of students at once. At private schools, the ratio is better, but still around 30 to 1. That means limited time, limited attention, and a process that often begins too late.

At League Bound, every student works one-on-one with a dedicated consultant from 9th grade through decision day. We are not filling out forms. We are building something: a profile, a set of experiences, a voice that makes the application feel inevitable by the time it is written.

Essays

We help students find the right angle and work through their personal statement, supplementals, and any additional writing. What sets us apart is our published essay booklet: real essays from students admitted to Stanford, Harvard, Yale, and more, each with a breakdown of what made it work.

“My Son Got Into Four Ivies: Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, and Cornell. From the very first session, Chris knew Razi was the right counselor. Razi knew exactly what to do with his story and how to shape it into something truthful and impactful.”

— Ji L., Parent of Chris, Harvard Class of ‘29

“Amitai from League Bound helped me completely transform my application and get into NYU. I had strong ideas but they were fragmented and did not come together to tell a cohesive story. Amitai was extraordinarily thorough, empathetic, and honestly a brilliant college guidance counselor. Getting in is unreal.”

— Keith, International Student — NYU Class of ‘30

“Working with Josh was super comfortable and low-stress. He helped pull apart specific pieces of my Common App personal essay, transforming it from a generic cliche to a unique telling of my story. If you are looking to take your college essays to the next level, Josh is your man.”

— Ian, Student — Cornell Class of ‘28

Interview Prep

Most interview prep produces students who sound rehearsed, which is exactly what interviewers do not want. Razi Hecker is a former Harvard alumni interviewer, and what we focus on is how to have a real conversation that feels natural, not performed.

“My girls really enjoyed their initial SAT tutoring sessions with Gabriel. He created a personalized prep plan for each of them and really helped them with understanding the material.”

— Shani, Parent

“For the month I have been working with Razi, my ACT score has gone up almost 10 points. Not only does he know what he is doing, he is also a great person with a great personality.”

— Max, Student

“Razi showed her that the strength of her story was often found in her vulnerability and openness, qualities she carried through to her interviews and other areas of her application as well.”

— Krishnan, Father of Charvi — UPenn Class of ‘30

Activity Selection

Most students know what they care about but not which activities truly reflect it. We help them choose commitments that build on each other, creating a profile where every activity earns its place.

“Beyond helping us understand the college admissions landscape, Gabriel guided Eleanor in prioritizing her activities and launching a financial literacy initiative at her school, with a clear plan to track impact and expand it across the state.”

— Irene, Parent

Awards & Competitions

Objective recognition tells admissions officers something a grade cannot. We help students identify competitions worth pursuing and prepare the writing those applications require.

“Josh helped my daughter with her essay for the John Locke competition. He is incredibly intelligent and excels at analyzing writing and understanding the student’s abilities.”

— Chloe, Parent

Academic Strategy

Course selection is not about the most rigorous schedule possible. It is about choosing courses where a student will do well and that signal genuine intellectual commitment. The courses a student takes tell a story before an admissions officer reads a single word.

Summer Programs

The right summer program is specific to what a student cares about and gives them something real to show for it. Sometimes a competitive program is the right call, sometimes a local commitment is more valuable. We help families make that decision and then help them build the applications to get there.

Passion Projects

A passion project takes something a student genuinely cares about and builds it into something real. A student who loved math built a math game. A student who loved history built an archive of stories that had never been collected before.

School List

A good school list finds the intersection of where a student will thrive, where they are a strong academic fit, and where they have a realistic shot. We think beyond rankings, considering personality fit, program strength, and campus culture.
